Photonic GPU Index
The tracking index for optical accelerators, interconnects, and silicon photonics.
Photonic GPU Index tracks optical accelerators, optical interconnects, and silicon-photonics foundries using the figure each source actually states. Compute, interconnect, and foundry numbers stay in separate columns. Analog photonic operations are not ranked against Nvidia or AMD GPU throughput.
Avicena states this for LightBundle. Passage EVK100 states 1.9 pJ/bit and OpenLight states 0.63 pJ/bit for a PIC. These are different objects. Reported, not a measured ranking.
Lightmatter states this at 78 W electrical. Lumai states 100 TOPS/W and 1 ExaOPS in 10 kW. Q.ANT states 8 GOPS; LRZ measured about 4 Gop/s. No single winner.

Same-Tier Technical Comparisons
Comparisons stay strictly within the same hardware tier (168 pairs indexed). Cross-tier figures (e.g. analog GOPS vs. switch Tbps) are never ranked against each other.
Methodology & Frequently Asked Questions
What does this index mean by a photonic GPU?
A photonic GPU here is any product where light does arithmetic, moves data between chips, or supplies the silicon-photonics process those chips are built on. Optical matrix processors, optical I/O, and foundries are tracked as separate tiers because their metrics are not the same quantity.
Why is there no single TOPS-per-watt ranking against Blackwell?
Analog photonic operations, switch terabits per second, and digital GPU TFLOPS are different units. Q.ANT's own generation-2 figure is 8 GOPS on its product page and about 4 Gop/s across eight channels in the LRZ measurement. Putting either number in one column with a Blackwell GPU would invent a comparison the sources do not make.
Which Q.ANT number should I use?
Use both, and keep the source attached. Q.ANT states 8 GOPS sustained for the generation-2 NPU. LRZ, writing on 21 April 2026, measured 500 million operations per second per channel and 4 billion operations per second across eight channels, with cards at 25 W and 100 W.
How do I query this dataset from an MCP client?
The server card is at /.well-known/mcp-server-card. The streamable HTTP endpoint is /mcp. Tools are list_entities, get_entity, search_index, and compare_entities. Compare refuses a winner when the two records use different metric families.
Are funding totals listed for every company?
No. A funding figure appears only when the company's own page states it. Salience Labs announced a $125 million Series B led by Bullhound Capital on 14 October 2026. Other rows leave funding blank.
Does the index treat UCIe as an optical standard?
No. Ayar Labs says TeraPHY's electrical die-to-die interface complies with UCIe. That is an electrical package standard used by an optical chiplet. This edition does not list a separate UCIe-Optical specification.
Is every photonic company in the world in this edition?
No. A row is added when a primary page states a product, a process, or a specification. Companies that have only a funding rumor, a patent title, or a paywalled analyst note are left out until a citable page exists. This edition has compute, interconnect, foundry, and standards tiers.
